I have keenly observed rapper Ikechukwu’s career over the years and his journey has been been quite interesting. Professionally, although he owned his record label World Famous Akademy (WFA), his big music debut came under the umbrella of Storm Records/Storm 360. From Storm 360, he transitioned to D’Banj and Don Jazzy’s Mo’Hits and subsequently, amidst rumors of a bad split, returned to WFA to really take the reins and go h ard. In between those transitions, Ikechukwu seemed to have a challenging time finding his footing. When the press wrote about him, it was to report “beef” with fellow artists/ex-labels, physical fights at bars/night clubs and what have you.
It is nice to finally see Ikechukwu streamline all of that mess and energy to get extremely focused, return to the business of music and take an even interpersonal bigger step with his recent proposal to his long time girlfriend Sarah Ofili.
The pair are set to wed in 2012. Congratulations to him and I hope 2012 brings even greater news and a really sharp focus on the music. Ikechukwu is talented and his focus needs to be on the music and diversifying his other business portfolios, if any.
Cheers,
Uduak
“Look everyone, he proposed!” – Sarah Ofili flashes ring.
