1. Paul Okoye buys 50% of Ubi Franklin’s MMMG, that share is what Iyanya owned. Iyanya is now signed as a recording artist with Mavin Records.

2. Omawumi returns to the music with the release of her new song and video ‘Butterflies.’

3.Nneka releases new music titled ‘Nothing’after a seeming brief hiatus.

4. Runtown’s ‘Mad Over You’ hit Billboard’s No. 38 Twitter Chart

5. Music producer and entrepreneur JJC and his new wife Funke Akindele launch a record label (S.O.P. Records). The actress also releases a trailer to an upcoming television series titled ‘Industreet,’ which tells a story of an artist looking to break into the music industry in Nigeria. The series is produced by her film production company, Scene One Productions.

6. Tekno and Ubi Franklin visited New York to sign a Sony Music deal.

7. Mr. Eazi caused a tsunami of angry reactions from his Nigerian fans when he said Ghanaian music had played a significant role in influencing Nigerian music. He later apologized after the backlash and some really funny memes.

8. Tiwa Savage will perform during Grammy Week at the Essence Black Women in Music Celebration

9. 2017 looks promising for Falz with the release of the video to his hit single ‘Wehdonesir’

10. Gabon’s own President welcomes Davido to his country.

11. Ikechukwu (Killz) resurrected in the music world and brought much “beef” with him against Terry Tha Rapman.

12. Ed Sheeran collaborates with Ghana’s Fuse ODG. Speaking of Ed Sheeran, he has had a fantastic year so far. He scored his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 as a performer and became the first act ever to debut in the top 10 with two titles simultaneously. Watch his song ‘Shape of You’ just burning up the charts.
