I felt like I was transported to spring and summer when I first listened to Zewdy’s “Lover Lover.” Her beautiful voice, coupled with lyrics describing a lovely man who “took her captive” when he locked her in his love, match the upbeat tone and melodies of this song. Biography
Combine passion, attitude and a bolster of pure talent and you get R&B/soul/urban Zewdy. The young talent flooded YouTube with over 100 cover songs, capturing the attention of listeners all over the world. Delivering a sound similar to that of hit sensations, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Celine Dion, and Christina Aguilera, Zewdy offers an energy long absent from the industry’s talent pool.Born July 4,1990 in New York City and raised in Union, New Jersey, Zewdy sharpened her talent on a Karaoke machine purchased by her singer/song writer father, Habte Awalom, a long-time veteran musician in the states. The young pop princess would utilize school musicals and random competitions as a medium to express her vocal talent, where she attracted a lot of attention, eventually being asked to sing at several reputable events, including the National Anthem at the reinstatement ceremony of Union’s mayor.
In an effort to reach more with her incredible talent, in 2007 Zewdy began posting video blogs and cover performances of hits like Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”, Jazmine Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows” and Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab”. Quickly stretching her fan base anywhere from New York to Germany, people everywhere have fallen in love with Zewdy’s pure talent and impeccable charm.
Zewdy is currently independent and working on her debut project release. She is also on tour with Solange Knowles as a background vocalist.
