The Iyanya Foundation ‘Cheers’ The Nyanya Bomb Blast Victims
Nigerian artist Iyanya certainly means business with his foundation that was recently launched. AML earlier told our readers that Iyanya had launched a foundation called The Iyanya Foundation, which caters to the under priviledged and homeless people.
Well, one of the first acts of the foundation was for the artist to individually visit the victims of the Nyanya bomb blast which occurred on the 15th of April, 2014 at the National Hospital Abuja.
The injured victims who are still receiving treatments were happy to see Iyanya and were cheered up when he sang his hit track ‘Kukere’ for them. Before leaving, the singer on behalf of his foundation, gave the victims toiletries and food items. Great work Iyanya! There is nothing like giving back to the community.
Tiwa Savage Has A New Endorsement Deal!
Mavin Records’ First Lady, Tiwa Savage, is one Nigerian Musician that leads the pack when it comes to endorsement deals. In addition to her deals with Pepsi, MTN and Forte Oil, the artist was recently revealed as an ambasador Maggi.
At a press briefing event last week, Tiwa was unveiled alongside media personality Toke Makinwa as an Ambassador for popular spice Maggi. Congrats to her! I really hope her lawyers are thoroughly reviewing the contract terms before having her sign all these dotted lines, because even though the brands are in different industries, some terms might be tricky as to time, exclusivity e.t.c.
For instance, what if two (2) of the brands have an event on the same day and dear Ms. Tiwa MUST attend both as per her contract. What happens then? Well, for her sake let’s hope she has an experienced and competent legal team.
In other Tiwa Savage news, the singer is currently in Dubai preparing for her ‘White Wedding’ this weekend to her manager T-Billz. Congrats to them both.
Here Are Forbes Top Five Wealthiest Hip Hop Artists
The names on this list are actually no suprise! All I wasn’t sure of, was the positions of each of these artists. These hip-hop artists have changed the way the world views hip hop today and the perception of rappers generally.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs tops the list with a $120 million increase of his net worth in the past year as a result of the launch of RevoltTv in which he is a majority owner. Next on the list is Andre Young, popularly known as Dr Dre. The rapper and producer hasn’t dropped an album in years but has made a fortune off his beats by dre headphones and brand.
Others on the list are Sean Carter (Jay Z) who owns ROC nation management, label and recently, sports agency. Bryan Williams (Birdman) owns Cash money records, home to Lil wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga and more and owns YMCMB clothing line. The 5th on the list is Curtis Jackson (50 cents) who has made a huge fortune off his Vitamin water.
Dear AML readers, this is why understanding that music is a business cannot be over emphasized! There comes a time where you need to grow your brand to become a business venture that will keep you relevant decades after you have stopped singing. Yes, endorsements are good, but how about making business deals where you actually benefit more as a brand than the company endorsing you. It is time for our artists to stop depending on endorsements alone. These artists above used their brands to become entrepreneurs and grown their brands beyond the ‘Rapper stereotype’.
