Copyright Infringement? Clarence Peters Accused of Stealing ‘Eminado’ Video Concept he Directed for Tiwa Savage

Share

Someone REALLY wanted me to see this because they sent it to all of my emails. Interesting. I have discussed the issue of theft of video concept idea during the whole Netng.net’s Osagie Alongie write up attacking Davido’s ‘Skelewu’ music video director, Moe Musa. Please revisit my analysis here. Also a follow up to that, do read the recent ruling of Madonna v. Vogue sampling lawsuit which underscores my point on the kind of analysis and factors necessary and that the court uses in determining whether a work has been infringed upon. Madonna won by the way for the sampling.

For this post, I will let you all draw your  conclusions and tell me how you feel about the alleged claim of infringement.

For long time AML readers, you know Clarence Peters is probably not too happy to read my views on some of his work.  I do think his creativity has suffered for a while now and that he needs to push himself. I have lost count of the many times I have said this on AML i.e. yes you can be and are a great cinematographer i.e. you can shoot quality pictures on camera. Now tell us a story, make it compelling and credible and move the story forward with all you got: cast, props, style etc. and oh, quit with the ‘bum bum’ soft porn videos you have now began throwing in our face because they degrade and demoralize our young women.

In the few recent videos he has churned out, he seems to be getting his mind around the idea that he needs to push the creative envelope a bit more. I thought Eminado was one such creative video.

However, the sender of the email below and maybe some of you will still insist Peters has long lost his creativity and there is no hope, except for the newbies coming up who can and will inject the much needed creativity into the industry. I will let you all make that call.  Your thoughts on the email below? Theft or no theft?

Cheers,
Uduak

“Hmmm! Clarence Peters is creative, Clarence Peters is a genius, Clarence Peters is……  Ooo stop it already guys!

Clarence Peters is not the genius you all have painted him to be. Clarence Peters should be sued for plagiarism or intellectual property theft. We won’t call him out on older videos he has copied. Let’s focus on Eminado by Tiwa Savage ft DonJazzy. Where did Clarence Peters get the WHOLE idea from?”
