I wonder, often, when Nigeria and Africa’s entertainment industries will wake up and understand the clear and simple synergy between fashion, film and music. It’s like we operate in isolated parts/pockets. Isn’t this as crystal clear to you as it is to me? Our celebrities, especially in film and music, continue to wear Western designer brands and now take a thrill from the ‘Who Wore it better’ features that match them against Western celebrities. That is all good and dandy but we need to take a page from the West and start marrying local music and film brands with local fashion brands.
Our designers also have a responsibility to seek and cultivate such relationships. Can we see brand ambassador deals with a Jewel by Lisa and say Osas Ighodaro or other more progressive fashion names out there? For the men, can we see D’Banj with a Mai Atafo or Okunoren Twins as an actual brand ambassador complete with the endorsement deals, a carefully crafted campaign and clear results on how the marriage between fashion and music will increase sales and profits for all involved while promoting our local brands?
In any event, check out the new face of Balmian, Rihanna, and expect to see more marriage of fashion and music on AML. Rihanna inked a 2014 Spring Campaign for the famous luxury wear brand, this past December.
BALMIAN is a fashion house founded by Pierre Alexandre Claudius Balmain who was a French fashion designer. Known for sophistication and elegance.
