Post Lupita Nyong’o Essence Award speech recognizing Dencia and her product ‘Whitenicious’ which I discussed here on AML, and had a lively discussion on that post on Facebook, Dencia shares the invitation from Oprah to appear on the OWN Network.
“Well,” good for Dencia I suppose. Let’s see the end result of that documentary. If she accepts to be on the documentary, she should expect to sign a rather comprehensive agreement, which should include a clause attaining her right of publicity so Oprah can essentially do whatever she pleases with the way she depicts Dencia. If Dencia is uncomfortable with this free reign Oprah will want, she should refuse to honor the invitation. Thanks to social media, we now know even Oprah wants her and that is enough to leverage such publicity generated from the invitation to propel her personal brand forward both here in the USA; and other markets.
