A few months ago, the public became aware that media personality Toke Makinwa filed for divorce from her cheating husband, Maje Ayida. Ayida, who dated Makinwa on and off for twelve years, impregnated an ex-girlfriend, Anita Solomon, during his marriage to Makinwa. Earlier this year, Makinwa filed for divorce and also included Solomon in her petition.
For months now, Solomon stayed under the radar but could not help herself when her son clocked a year. July 22nd, his birthday, she took to social media to share a picture of her son, and shower blessings on him. The blogs, needless to say, ran with the story and of course placed Makinwa in their stories.
So what do you do if you are Makinwa? You apparently go Kim Kardashian, in a very conservative society, by releasing a picture of you in a wet t-shirt, on the same day. The whole goal is to convince everyone to obviously shut up about the love child. Did it work?
Yes. Everyone is talking about Makinwa, of course their discussions come with a serious backlash against her. But, anything is better than having to deal with your name associated with a love child and his mother, a reminder of the pain you are still working through.
It may have worked this time but her challenge is how she intends to strike a balance in a seemingly conservative society. As Solomon becomes bolder in her use of social media to freely share images of her child, and even that of Ayida, what will Makinwa do? What go naked like Kim Kardashian and break the internet? This may hurt her in a society like Nigeria, but time will tell.
“Happy Birthday Micah, my sweet boy! You are blessed and highly favoured. You will always bring joy to the hearts of many, and you will serve God and give Him Glory. I love you so much and I can’t imagine a life without you, and I am blessed to have you!
May God’s grace abound in your life and may his spirit guide your path through this life always. Words can’t express how proud I am of being your mom today. I love you – always and forever!#HappyBirthdayMicah #ilovemyson#Micah #birthdayboy #Micahisone”
