Video | Can Someone Tell Me What Exactly Piers Morgan Did Wrong with the Janet Mock Interview?

Am I missing something? What exactly did Piers Morgan do wrong here? I have never been one to be politically correct inclined. You don’t change the world or make a difference by playing safe or staying quiet when you should say something. What exactly did this guy do wrong???

The Much ado about nothing from Janet Mock and absolutely ridiculous I would say. Nobody needs this, especially if they are supporting your cause.

Understood, someone who isn't wearing your boots can never know your struggle like you, and can therefore offend you even if they have the best of intentions. However like Piers said at the end of the second interview, she should have corrected him like you would do a friend (or someone on your team), instead of throwing him to the wolves on Twitter.

I think she just set him up to generate publicity for her book, simple.

  2. Uduak Oduok it wasn’t about the interview as it was about the contact graphic that she was a boy until 18. Trans folks would have preferred that it was written as she she identified as a girl and was living as a girl until she has the sex change at 18. Also, the tweet that later got deleted, ask what men would do if they found out that the woman they were with was once a man. To understand what went wrong, you have to look at the whole incident as trans taking over their own narrative. See the issue about being a tran is gender identity. And the one thing that set trans off, especially when they’re in transition is the gender use. The AP style and the Trans actually have their own writing style says you must use the new gender and name whenever talking about trans people. But CNN keeps disregarding this saying they have a policy to call people by what they’re legally born with. Which is ridiculous as they use artistes and even talk show hosts like PM’s pseudonyms. Lastly, PM responded like a bigot, even though some members of the community didn’t try.

Last thing I want to say is often marginalized community often take offence to a certain type of conversation, even though they themselves indulge in the convo. It happens in the black versus white community. And there has been a couple of reporting gaffe against the trans community recently. Most prominent is the one that outted Essay Anne Vanderbilt and caused her to commit suicide in Jan. So, the community is kinda raw at this time, I think. One last thing, does anyone know that Laverne Cox was on Katie Couric with some other person and was asked intrusive questions about the sex change which they skillfully navigated around which still didn’t sit well with the community? Was there a big backlash as PM’s own? No. Why? The answer is the problem.

Lastly, I think the community needs to better educate people on why they hate talking about sex change or former gender and just using the fraud line. I think that is inherently its problem. To assume that cis people will understand your issues automatically. Darn it, often other cisfolks don’t understand my own problems or even consider them a problem and I am a ciswoman. The community has far as I’m concerned dropped the ball yesterday, even Janet. What they could have used as a great teaching moment, they turn it into a cat fight. Losing most cis people, who like PM, have no idea what’s wrong. They need to do better when communicating their stories. In the new interview PM kept asking her where he went wrong and she kept talking about gender expectation. She gave a summarily vague answer that no one can comment on, instead of giving specific reasons. Instead of talking psychology, she should have talked specifics.

I think this article rightly opens up the problem. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/did-piers-morgan-sensa
