Who is CUPPY? Is She a Real DJ or a Socialite Wanna Be DJ Who Hangs with the ‘Cool’ Entertainment Celebs?

DJ Cuppy NYC LaunchI have been receiving these marketing/promotions/publicity emails with photos and videos for a prolonged period of time now about a person called Cuppy. I have delayed sharing because I honestly don’t have clarity of who she actually is.

It appears there is an attempt to pass her off as a DJ. Is she a DJ? She may be one and a very good one at that but  right now, the brand message is very lost and very, very confusing and it makes it hard to define what exactly she wants the press/media/blogs to say about her.

As a talent, you are responsible for your own narrative and if you can’t tell your story, bloggers, press et al will do that for you. Who are you? Why should we care?

From a music business/media/blogger receiving end, if she is not standing in the shadows of a soft-sell magazine/magazine headline that screams that she is the daughter of a wealthy father (billionaire) and daddy’s little girl, literally; she is seen dishing ostentatiousness that suffocates whatever her brand message is.

Can the girl get out of her father’s shadows and stand on her own as a business woman and a music business woman at that?

If we are about the music business and being one of the Nigeria’s contemporary leading DJs, can we get to work already and stay focused, Ms. Cuppy? Cuppy will not be the first or last Nigerian from a wealthy family who is expected to show up to work and be just as serious as the talents without the financial backing, when it comes to how she presents her brand message. There are countless examples in our industry that are good examples of what that looks like.

Tell a story so we know who you actually are. Who are you and what’s with the constant hob-nobbing with the rich and famous entertainment celebs and high society? Is this some sort of “niche” target market that you DJ for? If so, can you have your publicist forward the memo so we can adjust our expectations?

I am honestly confused with this one minute I am a DJ, next I am a Socialite wanna be DJ hanging with the ‘cool’ entertainment celebs.

Then again, maybe the idea is to be this confusing?*Puzzled look*
